Phoronix website has a trick about Fedora’s Release 12 (AKA Constantine). RedHat guys have backported kernel-mode-setting code for ATI R6xx/R7xx chipset (i.e. ATI Radeon HD2xxx, HD3xxx and HD4xxx series) from 2.6.32 to 2.6.31 Kernel.
However, 3D Hardware acceleration support, provided by MESA lib’s DRI, was disabled by default, being unstable support present only in git branch of 7.6 Mesalib.
One more time, RedHat team provides a porting ready to be enabled through a simple:
yum install mesa-dri-drivers-experimental
After it reboot and enjoy 3D Hardware acceleration without damned fglrx!
